Mission #4

Mission #4

Happy New Mission Monday!!! I like that. New Mission Monday. Or NMM. (Note to self: Keep it and TM it.) Okay. Last week's mission was one of my favs so far. The mission was to play to donate 7,200 grains of rice (roughly one cup) on freerice.com. It was easily a win/win mission because not only do you help
end world hunger by providing rice to hungry people for free, you also give your brain a nice workout when you answer the questions. The non-profit site provides such a variety of topics to answer questions from. And, for each question you answer correctly Freerice donates 10 grains of rice to a person in need through the World Food Programme.

Below is a screen shot of Keeping Up With KC's donation of 7,200 grains of rice. Mission #3 completed.

Mission #4: Show appreciation toward your co-worker(s).

It's been another crazy week packing and getting ready for the BIG MOVE. Not to mention, my wonderful 3-day weekend turned into a 4-day weekend due to a bout with asthma. Never had it in my life. EVER. But, I guess now I do. Besides that, it's been a pretty good week. Here are my top five:

1. Got a chance to visit with my sister and niece. Whilst my sister and I were
catching up, my niece kept "airmailing" me "notes" over the edge of the
couch. Gotta love that crazy little girl.

2. The first Upward game of the season was on Saturday!!! ALL of my girls did
sooo good!!! Go Upward!!! *\0/* Cheers *\0/*

3. Thrifted this brand new with tags, super simple and totally cute J Crew blue
button-down for work from a local thrift store for $0.75. Yay super cheap
    brand new work clothes!!!

4. The parentals ended up buying a house in the Big GA. They close on Monday
and want to start moving in shortly after that. Me, I have to start moving
what little stuff that's staying down here with me over to my grandparentals.
My reward? A trip already planned to the Big GA to see the fam and the new
house over President's day weekend. :-)

5. And lastly, started a new web-based bible study with P31 Ministries. We've
read and discussed the first two chapters of Made To Crave by Lysa TerKeurst
and I absolutely love it!!! Can't wait to see what the rest of the study has is
    store!!!

Mission #3

Mission #3

Okay, so last week's mission was to leave a favorite book in a public place for someone else to enjoy.

I ended up choosing Flat Stanley by Jeff Brown because that was one of my favorites as a kid (and even through high school, college, and now into quasi-adulthood). And, I thought that someone else might get the same joy out of it that I did (and still do). Luckily, I found a copy in very good condition in the book store at library where I work, so I popped a few quarters into "honor box" and grabbed my copy of Flat Stanley for Mission #2.

I WAS just going to leave a nice little note in the book for the new owner, BUT then I remembered BookCrossing from my undergraduate literature classes. BookCrossing is a social network-ish that encourages readers to read, register, and release books for others to enjoy. The site includes a way to track books released, add journal entries and reviews, and so much more. (You can find out more about BookCrossing here.)

So, I registered Flat Stanley and received a BCID (or BookCrossing ID) so that I (and the someone elses after me) could track where the book goes once a new someone else gets it. I printed out and glued the BCID and tracking instructions on the inside cover of the book and packaged it in a Ziploc for the next someone and left the package on a bench outside of a local retail store.

Bon voyage Flat Stanley!!!

Mission #3: Play to donate 7,200 grains of rice (roughly one cup) on freerice.com.

Happy Friday!!! It's been such a crazy week with sooo many BIG changes! I repeat: It's been such a crazy week with so many BIG changes! Here are the highlights:

1. The parentals closed on the house this week, so they will be off to the
big AL/or the big GA within the month. Super sad, but so happy for them. I
am planning on moving in with my grandparentals for the time being until I
can find a J-O-B and can move up there to be with them.

2. Totally got a new car this week. I am now the proud owner my grandmother's
2003 Saturn Ion with only, get this, 35,553 miles on it. I know right! That's
quite an upgrade from my poor little 2002 Pontiac Sunfire with 127,403 miles
on it. I feel absolutely horrible about moving on from The Girl, but I think it's
time. The Girl also got a new owner this week as well (and I got a little extra
moolah in the banko). The Girl will be the 18-year-old's first car. Super cool.
God speed little black Pontiac, you will always have a piece of my heart.

3. Started watching The Tudors Season 1 this week. A friend and I started a
loooonnnnggg time ago during my Henry VIII phase, but I never finished the
series. Checked it in at the library (my version of Netflix) the other day and
then checked it out to me. Six episodes down and four to go in Season 1.

4. Made this little guy this week. Not sure what I'm going to do with him
yet, but I think he came out absolutely adorable.

5. And last but not least, I am blessed to have a job that observes federal
holidays. Hello three-day weekend and Happy MLK Day!!! Oh, and Happy
NFL AFC and NFC Conference Championship weekend!!!

Mission #2

Mission #2

Last Monday, I posted about challenging myself to complete 52 kindness missions throughout 2014, one for each week of 2014. (You can re-read about that here.) In that post, I also promised to share the outcome of the previous week's kindness mission before posting the next week's kindness mission on Mondays.

Last week's mission was to send a kind note to or leave a kind note for a friend or family member. Now, one of my closer friends has been going through the "big bad blah" and I wanted to cheer her up a bit, so I sent her this:

Mission #2 (insert the Mission Impossible theme song): Leave your favorite book in a public place for someone else to enjoy.

High Five For Friday!!!

High Five For Friday!!!

Let's take a moment of silence in observation of Friday's awesomeness... Now, to link up with Lauren Elizabeth for HF4F. My top five for the week are as follows:

1. Survived the mega uber coldness that Tuesday brought here in Florida. Now,
I completely understand that some people had it way worse than we did
with sub-zero temps and all, but, in my defense, I am a Florida girl born and
bred and anything below 75 is freezing to me, so Tuesday's lows of 20-
something and highs of 40-something was my equivalent of sub-zero.

2. The 2014 Upward basketball cheer season started this week. Hello, nine
weeks of utter and complete craziness of the best kind. I wasn't planning on
coaching a squad so much as coaching the coaches due to time constraints,
but I guess The Big Man had other plans and opened my schedule, so I will
now be coaching the Ladybugs cheer squad AND coaching the coaches,
    too. :-)

3.  Sooo finished my January book, Night by Elie Wiesel, this week. One down,
eleven more to go. It was a short (only 109 pages), but powerful read about
Wiesel's experience in the Holocaust. I highly recommend it. Once you start
reading it, you absolutely cannot put it down.

4. Made these little guys for my letter "Dd" story time. Yes, they are ducks for
the Five Little Ducks rhyme. I guess this would be a part of "finding
something productive to do with my felting talents"??? Anyways, I think
they came out super cute, but then again, I'm quite partial.

5. And last, but certainly not least, the new season of Cougar Town premiered
Tuesday night. I have absolutely no idea why, but I LOVE that
show. Welcome back cul-de-sac crew. You were all greatly missed.

Mission #1

Mission #1

I must confess that I am a sucker for a good challenge. Regardless of what it is, I CANNOT SAY NO. Sometimes that's a good thing, most of the time it is bad. Very, very bad.

That being said, I've decided to use this trait (or character flaw if you will) of mine constructively and call myself out and challenge myself to complete 52 kindness missions, one for each of the 52 weeks of 2014.

Here's how it will work: Mondays I will post the kindness mission for the week. The following Monday, I will share the results of kindness mission and post the new mission. It's as easy as that.

To start the year off with a bang, the mission for this week is: Send a kind note to or leave a kind note for a friend or family member.

 5. And last, but certainly not least, I finally finished my hungry caterpillar for

Happy New Year!!!

Happy New Year!!!

In late December 2013, I came up with this brilliant idea to start a blog and maintain it through the year 2014 (at least). Every 20-something in the great United States of America and beyond was doing it right? I could do it too right? Right?

The idea was to launch the blog on the very first day of the new year. So, Happy New Year and welcome to Keeping Up With KC!!! Join me as I chronicle my adventures (or misadventures) throughout 2014.

At that very same time, another brilliant thought crossed my mind. The thought was to create a list of 14 tasks or goals to complete over the course of 2014 so I'd actually have things to blog about. I know! Crazy awesome right? So, without further adieu, and in no specific order, my 14 for 2014:
  1. Start and actually maintain this blog by posting at least twice a week throughout the year. (0/104)
  2. Get a great job in my field.
  3. Read at least one book a month for each of the 12 months of 2014. (0/12)
  4. Learn how to make and actually make a batch of authentic Mexican tortillas.
  5. Go on an impromptu weekend mini-vaca.
  6. Start and complete the 52 Week Savings Challenge. (0/$1,378)
  7. Win a prize via a contest/giveaway.
  8. Sew a shirt...or two...or three...from a pattern or tutorial.
  9. Participate in a fun themed 5K.
  10. Complete 52 kindness missions, one for each of the 52 weeks in 2014. (0/52)
  11. Hit through a bucket of golf balls at a practice range.
  12. Sing a song karaoke in public.
  13. Attend a college/pro sporting event.
  14. Find something productive to do with my felting talents.
You can check my progress on my 14 in 2014 anytime by clicking on the "14 in 2014" tab.

Again, Happy New Year and thank you for stopping by!!!
